Chinese celestiale map

Dear MAPHISTers,

I have attached an electronic photo of a beautiful Chinese celestial chart (1.5m by 2.5m) that has been dated to the Ming Dynasty. The image shows reasonably well the actual colors of the chart (blue background, with white characters). The size of the inner circle suggests that it was made in Beijing or for the latitude of Beijing.

The Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum plans to put in on exhibit this summer, but we do not know if others like it still survive, or if the stone used to make it remains intact. We would like to find similar copies and the original stone, as well as answer some other questions that we have. We would also like to provide a translation for a short book. Would you be able to assist us in any of these matters?

Thank you for any help you might send my way.

Marv
